TREATMENT FOR ROSACEA, VESSELS, PIGMENT, PORE SIZE Pulsed Light Rejuvenation/Laser Light was designed to combat the effects of aging and damaged skin in a softer, gentler way. The redness and flushing of rosacea can be reduced 50 to 90 percent. It can be used to treat the full face, neck, chest and even the hands. Using the advanced Pulsed Light/Laser systems, your doctor gently delivers precise amounts of light energy through your skin's surface. Treatments are spaced out at about three or four week intervals.
The StarLux System is one of the most powerful aesthetic light systems in the world and the most expensive system made for pure pulsed light specialization. The StarLux system will generally do in two treatments what other systems will take four to seven treatments to accomplish, and in most patients one treatment will make a very significant improvement. Beware of the "advertising blitz" of the many low to mid quality intense pulsed light systems in various spas and laser clinics. Their prices may seem slightly better to the uninformed, but the excessive number of treatments, lower power, technicians doing them, and inferior quality of their instruments will end up costing you usually 200% to 400% more to accomplish the same goal. For example, one of our patients went to a clinic in the Overland Park area and did five IPL treatments (that is what she was told she needed by this clinic), they sold her a package of five treatments for $2000, and the patient said she saw absolutely no difference from all five of their IPL treatments. She came to our clinic and we did one treatment with the StarLux intense pulsed light system, and she said she was amazed at the improvement in redness, blood vessels, age spots and pore size, with an estimated improvement of about 70% by her after just the one treatment, and we charged her $300. Generally, we recommend two treatments about four weeks apart. |
The energy is delivered at specific settings for each treatment to maximize your results based on your skin type and clinical exam. The Genesis laser energy can stimulate the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased. IPL helps the redness associated with rosacea and blood vessels can be dramatically reduced. Often irregular pigmentation related to sun and hormones are generally lightened and improved. There can be other causes of pigmentation that do not respond to pulsed light. What results can I expect? Often after only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots can fade. Pore sizes tend to shrink. Some fine lines and wrinkles can gradually decrease in size with repetition and if collagen is stimulated. Usually these improvements will steadily increase with each subsequent treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness as treatments progress. 
If the signs of aging, redness, vessels, and wrinkles are generalized it is wise to proceed with skin rejuvenation and a photo facial (face, neck or hands) for best overall long term results (see section on Skin Rejuvenation). One treatment alone can and will help, but this is usually the case where "more is better".

 Signs of Facial Aging
In your 30's, wrinkles and sun spots may begin to appear. Your skin may seem less radiant and may show signs of discoloration.
In your 40's, the collagen and elastin support network begins to break down. Lines and wrinkles become more prominent as your skin becomes dryer. The blood flow begins to slow down, leaving your skin with less of a blush. Sun damage, tobacco use, overall health and genetics can contribute to these processes. The skin begins to thin, and redness, spider vessels, and matting become common. Sun spots and discoloration appear (usually called dyschromia).
Once in your 50's, the new cell production decreases. Your skin retains less water, which increases the wrinkle formation. At the same time the underlying fat cells in your face shrink and your excess skin begins to sag. This is when skin tightening can be beneficial.

Today's new light technology delivers precise dosages of energy to the skin. During your treatment, light energy is gently delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted area. Levels of energy specific to your treatment are used to maximize your improvement. Once delivered, the light energy is absorbed by the targeted damaged tissue. The settings are based on your specific skin type and clinical exam.
