The advanced PALOMAR ICON AESTHETIC SYSTEM is one of the most powerful aesthetic light systems in the world and one of the most expensive systems made for aesthetic specialization. The PALOMAR ICON system USES OPTIMIZED LIGHT and will often do in two treatments what other systems will take four to seven treatments to accomplish, and in most patients one treatment will make a very significant improvement. Beware of the "advertising blitz" of the many lower to mid quality intense pulsed light systems in various spas and laser clinics. Their prices may seem slightly better to the uninformed, but the excessive number of treatments, lower power, and inferior quality of their instruments will end up costing you usually 200% to 400% more to accomplish the same goal.
For example, one of our patients went to a clinic in the Overland Park area and did five pulsed light treatments (that is what she was told she needed by this clinic), they sold her a package of five treatments for $2000, and the patient said she saw absolutely no difference from all five of their intense pulsed light treatments. She came to our clinic and we did one treatment with the Palomar pulsed light system, and she said she was amazed at the improvement in redness, blood vessels, age spots and pore size, with estimated improvement of about 70% after just the one treatment, and we charged her $300. Generally, we recommend two treatments about four weeks apart and then suggest some form of maintenance (i.e., every 6 months).

Each persons treatments are individualized by the doctor for that individuals skin type and characteristics and for the problems on their skin.
What happens next?
Usually we see improvement of 30 to 50 percent after one treatment and more treatments can often improve further gains, but you will generally know if it works with one treatment session ind about 10 to 14 days.
What happens as we start to age?
In our middle ages early lines start to appear with loss of elasticity and textural changes.
The sun, genetics, atrophy, and hormones cause brown spots, age or sun spots may set in the skin, the skin starts
to thin, blood vessels show through and many people start to get overproduction of blood
vessels, and the collagen starts to thin and wear out. Sun damage, tobacco use,
health and genetics can contribute to these processes. Thinning of the
skin and atrophy can set in and vessels and redness look more obvious. As we
continue to age. we get deeper lines, wrinkles and creases.
If
the signs of aging, redness, vessels, and wrinkles are generalized it
is wise to proceed with skin rejuvenation and a photo facial and other lasers can help these conditions(face,
neck or hands) for best overall results multiple systems can be used (see section on Skin Rejuvenation). One treatment alone can help, but more sessions can make it even better.

How do various treatments work?
The Max G ICON hand piece will target the area of pigment or
blood vessel because melanin or hemoglobin will absorb the energy like a
magnet attracts to metal. The collagen building lasers like Genesis or Lux 1540 fractional stimulate collagen production and may produce a very nice improvement in texture.
